My thoughts on art contests

Art contests can be extremely grueling and can make you feel like you’re not good enough, so why do I or any other artist even bother.

This is an illustration of the famous Mona Lisa Painting by Da Vinci. It is drawn by Carolyn Sehgal as portrait practice. there is no profit made from this illustration.

From websites like 99designs, and Teefury to an art contest on Instagram, or any other way you as an artist happen to come upon a contest it can feel like a daunting task to be noticed for your work and with so many artists in the world who are all very talented.

The hardest part is persisting despite this. There is a place in this world for your talent your style and the art of your dreams.

I say this as much for myself as I do for you, my reader. I know what it feels like to look at your work and feel like it will never be good enough, I know it can be discouraging to put your heart into a piece of art (be it photography, fine art, illustration, design, etc.) only to find out that you didn’t win. However, you are good enough and there is someone out there who will appreciate and love your work.

It is those who persist despite rejection who truly make it in this world. No matter what you (and I) always have to keep trying it is the second that we give up in this world that our dreams truly die and if your dream is to make the world more beautiful or to inspire the viewer to think then you are probably on the right path.

We all have a voice and something to say and for an artist, it is through our creativity that we say it. I may or may not be a great artist but if I stop trying, learning, practicing, and creating then I will always wonder the what-if of life.

All this said I decide that no matter how much I get rejected I will never give up and I hope that you and anyone (of the probably few who read this) know and understand that you as well are talented and creative and refuse to give up as well. I am sure that you are wonderful and your art (whatever medium or type it may be) is wonderful and I am sure that the world will be worse off without it.

With love, and good wishes,

Creatively yours,

Carolyn💚
