Hello, creatives and fellow designers today’s post is about the assets studio in affinity designer for iPad. The assets studio is both similar and different to the symbols studio. With the symbols studio, you are creating shapes and symbols that you will use within the document your currently working on, however, those symbols will not be available when you open another document. With the assets studio, you have a collection of symbols that can be accessed and used no matter the document you’re working in.
You can create your assets as well as select from a pre-created selection of assets that as of this writing include elements from iOS 12.
If these pre-created assets don’t work for you, you can create your own and they will be available to you no matter the document you are working in.
Assets also differ from symbols because when you edit an asset it does not edit the original asset or any other assets placed. So if you will be placing many assets and want to be able to edit all of them at once you will probably want to be working from the symbols studio, not the assets studio.
Category Menu is where you can switch between different symbol menus you may have. By default, there is only a menu for iOS 12 (as of this writing) pre-loaded in, however, if you create and name your own category’s you can switch between them here.
The Subcategory will show you different grouped assets within a category. You can create your subcategories and group them any way you would like to.
The assets themselves are always displayed as a thumbnail of the graphic/asset that can be placed.
The panel preferences give you options that pertain to the Assets. You can add a category, add a subcategory, import or export a category, delete a category, and lastly rename a category.
Subcategory Options Menu
The subcategory options allow you to add an asset to a subcategory from a selection as well as rename or delete that selected subcategory.
This concludes my post about the Assets Studio. As always thank you for taking the time to read 💚. Know that I appreciate you and wish you all the luck in the world in your creative endeavors.
Till next time, Happy Designing 💚!
