Text Studio

Hello, creatives and fellow designers today’s post is about the text studio in Affinity Designer for iPad. The text studio will be very similar to the character and paragraph panels on the desktop version of Affinity Designer. It allows you to format and tweak text in terms of individual letters, words, sentences, and paragraphs. This however will not allow for you to do bulk editing of paragraph-level editing like the paragraphs panel will do in the desktop version of the software. Be aware that there is no paragraph panel equivalent in the iPad version of Designer (that can found at the time of writing).

Text Menu

Under the text menu, the only option is whether or not you check the spelling when typing. I usually leave it on because I am awful at spelling.

Here is where you’ll set the typeface for the text you are editing.

This is where you’ll set the point size of the typeface selected. Also as a fun little side note whatever size you have set will appear under the icon for the text studio.

Font Traits

This is where you’ll set the traits of the selected typeface. Bold, Italic, or Regular for example.

If you activate this icon it will make the selected/highlighted text bold.

When you activate this icon your selected/highlighted text to italics.

Font Color

You can use this round icon here to change the color of your text.

These icons here will apply a single, double, or even no underline to selected/highlighted text. It is even possible to select its color for the underline if applied that is separate from the text color.

Strike Through

These icons will apply a single, double, or no strike through the selected/highlighted text. Also as with the underline feature you can select a different color to be the color of the line that is running through the text.

These alignment options will affect how the text is justified within its text box or art text box. The options you can pick from are as follows:

  • Left
  • Center
  • Right
  • Justify Left
  • Justify Center
  • Justify Right
  • Justify All

Because there is a separate character panel and paragraph panel, similar to what you would find in the desktop version of Affinity Designer, the next few posts will be about the character and paragraph sections of the Text Studio in Affinity Designer for iPad.

As always thank you for taking the time to read 💚. Know that I appreciate you and wish you all the luck in the world in your creative endeavors.

Till next time, Happy Designing 💚!
