From Sketch to Print

Sometimes when you create a design it just isn’t enough to sketch out something. You need to work out a final product.

During Inktober I made this drawing for the prompt Ominous. At the time I had this quote from Harry potter stuck in my head. “I must not tell lies…” ~ OotP ch.13 and at the same time the election was coming up and I just wanted to create a design that encouraged everyone to vote, because I firmly believe in the power of voting. Over all I was really happy how the design turned out but it felt like a small drop in the bucket of the possibilities. I am not a fan of my handwriting for instance and all the writing felt super rushed, not to mention I initially spelled Dolores with an e as seen here in this sketch. Anyway the point is that I truly felt that the image could be better.

Not long after I published this for Inktober one of my shops added a new cause to their Causes feature. Threadless has started allowing artists and designers to choose charities to donate their profits too and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to rework a design I was happy with to try to raise money for a good cause.

So that is exactly what I did. I opened up the original design, chose a new color palette and fonts and got to work building this piece of art which is now on sale in my shop.

The organization that I chose to raise money for is Fair Fight. They work to fight voter suppression and support voter protection programs all over the country. To me that is a noble cause, because voting is the foundation of our democracy and we all deserve to be heard.

All of my normal profits will go to this organization and Threadless also donates an extra dollar for every item that sells. So you would be supporting a good cause as well as getting some cool swag in the process.

In the spirit of thanksgiving and the holidays I just wanted to share some of my thought process and how I get from A to Z with my designs and art. If your willing and able to purchase I truly appreciate it. It is really a good cause.

As always thank you for taking the time to read 💚. Know that I appreciate you and wish you all the luck in the world on your creative endeavors.

Till next time, Happy Designing 💚!
