Starting with some art…
Let’s get real; I needed an excuse to draw a Puss and Boots style character. This guy is in my mind very much like Iñigo Montoya from The Princess Bride. However, that is mostly because he is one of my favorite characters from that film. I hope you all had a wonderful week.
Now to the Good News…
Cities Are Becoming More Like Sponges
Cities are implementing systems of land management, turning urban areas into sponges by adding strategic green spaces. This sponge concept is designed to mitigate flooding, which is becoming more imperative as climate change rears its ugly head. As cities expand and cement over the land, there is little place for water to go, which causes flooding and leads to little or no groundwater replenishment. These sponge cities mean to rectify that by adding green space, which creates a natural flood barrier retaining water during flooding and recharging water during a drought. This is not a silver bullet solution, but it is becoming more and more clear that we need to be smarter and more strategic about land management.
