Starting with some art…

Fragile

No two snowflakes are alike. We have all heard this saying before, but unique or not, everyone has ideas and dreams. My message to you all this week is to bring your unique voice to the world and make your dreams come true. The road will not be easy. Nothing worth achieving ever is. I still struggle with the road to make my dreams a reality. However, if you don’t give up and work hard, your dreams are as achievable as a unique snowflake. May your last week have been full of sunshine and joy.

Now to the Good News…

Switzerland in 2050: portrait of a climate-neutral country

The Swiss Population just voted on turning net zero emissions into the law of the land. Sixty percent of the population approved the new law, formally setting 2050 as a goal for Carbon Neutrality nationwide. The transition is not expected to be easy for Switzerland; requiring various forms of energy saving, creative clean energy storage, and new building techniques. However, two studies released before the vote lay out different ways this will be achievable for them. As climate change is rearing its ugly head around the world, this is a positive step, and it is great to see more countries taking their energy needs into their own hands.

All-women news source launches in Somalia to cover inequality

We all know the importance of reliable journalism in our lives. This truth represents a cornerstone of any country’s journalistic offerings. Somalia is doing its part to ensure an underrepresented swath of the population has the opportunity to share their stories. As a country with a high gender imbalance in journalism, Bilan aims to be a news source that produces content for tv, radio, and online sources that women care about and are often overlooked by their male counterparts.

Paris Olympics to give waste a second life with recycled plastic chairs

The 2024 Paris Olympics plan to be the greenest games ever. The overall goal of reducing the emissions of the games in half by encouraging public transit, taking advantage of existing structures for events, and carbon offsetting. While offsets are controversial, the goal of making the games greener is admirable. To that end, at least two venues will have recycled plastic chairs made from locally collected plastic.
