Starting with some art…
I hope this guy was good about brushing his teeth. I have always found the Mexican sugar skulls to be a colorful celebration of life. Sugar skulls are traditionally decorated for Dia de Los Muertos or All Souls’ Day. To me, the day is about celebrating the lives of our loved ones. I hope you all had a lovely week filled with fun and family time.

‘Safe and effective’: first malaria vaccine to be rolled out in 12 African countries
This story might have appeared in the news a while ago, so I apologize if you have already heard it. I find it amazing that there is finally a malaria vaccine, which is something researched for so long. It is equally important and wonderful that the first doses will go to countries that need it the most. Eighteen million doses are to be distributed across the twelve African nations with the highest need. Malaria has been treatable as well as preventable for some time. However, the vaccine is still expected to increase the likelihood of survival among children.
Marvel superhero tackles climate change and social injustice
For those of you who love comic books and Marvel, there is a new hero in town. She is a Puerto Rican looking to tackle climate change, corruption, and social injustice. With all these issues being at the forefront of society right now, it is great to see Marvel addressing them in their publications. Also, the graphic novel has the one and only Rosario Dawson as its spokesperson. This type of writing is helping spread the word about these issues to new audiences who might not otherwise be exposed to them.
U.S. destroys last of its declared chemical weapons
In an epic win for human rights, the United States just completed a decades-long decommissioning of chemical weapons that dates back to the WWI era. Chemical weapons are a hugely catastrophic and cruel way to harm people. They are one of the most horrific forms of warfare that exist. The US is making good on its commitment to the Chemical Weapons Convention. We now need more countries to join in the convention and also cease the use and development of these weapons.
