Starting with some art…
When I was a kid, my mom had these porcelain ornaments that were all of little mice doing various activities, and when I became an adult, she gave them to me for my Christmas tree. My favorite has always been the one where the mouse is a chef. He even inspired this drawing. I hope you all had a wonderful week.
Now to the Good News…
Amid Strikes, Abigail Disney & Fan Activists Seek To Protect Disney Employees
Abigail Disney is working with Fandom Forward on the Be a Hero campaign. They want people to convince Disney shareholders to expand the duty of care obligations to all of their employees, not just the shareholders. Disney “cast members” have seen an increasing disparity in quality of life for them versus the shareholders. On Disney’s 100th anniversary, Abigail is hoping that they change their ways and put people before profit. Personally, I hope they win this fight.
This new factory will turn CO2 into sustainable jet fuel
A company called Twelve is scaling up its sustainable aviation fuel production recently with a new plant in Washington State. They intend to create this fuel using electricity, water, and carbon dioxide. The fuel claims to be able to cut 90% of life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions from the industry, and it achieves this by “recycling” CO2 emissions. As the world decarbonizes, sourcing this CO2 could become tricky. However, the aviation industry is looking for more and more of this type of sustainable fuel to clean up their act. With any luck, Twelve and other companies like it will change the game on flying and travel sooner rather than later.
What is eco-grazing? Ancient horses and bison battle Spain and Portugal’s wildfires
From horses in Portugal to bison in Spain, people are connecting with nature in new ways to help with forest fire prevention. The Garrano horses and European bison are both endangered species, and the animals benefit from conservation efforts while helping to protect the land from destructive blazes. They do this by clearing the scrubland and vegetation of typical fuel for forest fires. This collaborative effort benefits the animals as well as civilization and could show us all a way forward that balances nature and humanity.
