Starting with some art…
Do you have a favorite type/brand of shoe? Personally, I have always been partial to Converse™️. Even if I am not buying that brand specifically, then the style needs to have a similar overall look. I drew high tops for this one, but that hasn’t really been my preference since I was in middle school. I hope you all had a wonderful week.
Now to the Good News…
Future of travel: how the race to reduce emissions will shape our holidays
Almost everyone loves travel, but with the climate crisis and CO2 emissions needing to come down there are new trends emerging allowing for comfortable and eco friendly travel. From countries banning flights that can be done by alternative means, to inexpensive public transportation; there are many options available to travelers. As a freelancer, I have often done the working vacation, which is also becoming more common. We have so many ways to travel that are good for the planet as well as our pocketbooks. Maybe these trends will also get aviation thinking about how they can be better for the planet.
Workers at companies that tested out a 4-day workweek are happier and more efficient — and firms made more money. One lawmaker says it’s ‘here to stay.’
We are one year in to a multi-country study on the benefits of a four day work-week and the results are overwhelmingly positive. Companies that participated found that employees had a better work life balance that increased productivity and revenues. It also made employees less likely to leave their companies. Representatives in the United States are starting to take notice and are supporting putting a 32 hour work-week into law.
Bacteria recruited to build endlessly recyclable plastic
Researchers at Berkeley Lab have engineered bacteria in such a way as to produce the material for a fully recyclable plastic. The scientists were originally working with the petrochemicals that typically make up plastics we use, however, for the next round of studies they switched to more sustainable plant based sources. They engineered E.Coli to take plant sugars and make the plastic, and in so doing they have found that this plant based plastic is stronger than our traditional sources. If this process pans out as expected the cheaper plant-based plastic will also cut CO2, and revolutionize an industry that is greatly in need of options that are better for our planet.
