Art & Good News 9-30-2023

Starting with some art…

The isometric gift box is all wrapped up with a bow on top.
Gift

We all love getting gifts in life. It can be such a wonderful surprise to receive a gift from someone in your life. In that vein, I like to thing that my little good news blog is my gift to people. There are so many bad and scary stories out there that it feels like we all need a good story of things going right. It is also a selfish ploy on my part, because I love to give gifts and I get as much benefit out of finding the good news stories as I hope you all do from reading them. I hope you all have had a wonderful week.

Now to the Good News…

Six young people sue 32 nations over climate inaction

Six youths from Portugal, who range in age from eleven to twenty-four, are all suing in the International court over countries inaction on climate change. They were inspired by the wildfires that ravaged their country in 2017, and claim that climate change had made the fires worse than they would have been otherwise. The argument they make is that climate inaction infringes on their human rights. The largest struggle they face is that they need to prove a direct link to increased hardship. Children like this are inspiring, because while every choice we make has an impact on our environment, the largest impacts are beyond any one persons control. Governments need to take the future of the human race seriously and impose serious action from the worst offenders and green-washers.

California joins the right-to-repair revolution

California officially joins states like Minnesota and New York in passing right to repair legislation. This is a huge deal in the United States because the winds of change tend to blow in the same direction as the state of California. Personally as someone who wants to use my products until they are falling apart I really appreciate this trend in tech.

Three good things: new state-of-the-art libraries

As a frequent user of my own library I love articles like this one that highlight the amazing things this valuable place of knowledge have. Here is an article about three such amazing libraries. From Biblioteca Gabriel García Márquez, Barcelona, Spain named the best new public library in the world, to the modern marvel that is the Parramatta Library, Parramatta, Australia, and finally Shanghai Library East, Shanghai, China which is the second largest library in the world. Hopefully you all get full use of your own public library like we do in our home.
