April Showers bring May Flowers, and then June sets in.

An update on what I have been doing while hiding and another look ahead…

It seems like no matter what I do there is always so many things to work on. The good news for me is that it isn’t really all that bad overall just need to knuckle down and focus on where I want the art to take me.

I often share that I have been in love with drawing since I was young (coloring books were my favorite, and before I knew it I was expanding on my skills just because I loved it). However, in all honesty I talked myself out of being an artist when I was younger. When I was in college didn’t think my work was good enough and switched out my art major for photography. I wanted to be creative but I also wanted to work and I definitely did not think I was good enough as an artist. I didn’t trust in my talent and I believed the stereotype that art can’t be more than a hobby for most and only the few are successful.

I still have trouble with my feelings about my talent but after years of not really using my creativity in a way that felt meaningful something needed to change. So from a graphic design degree to freelancing, I very quickly came full circle and back to my first love of drawing and illustration.

Many of you frequent readers already know most of this. I have talked about my progression to wanting to be an illustrator before. All of this is mostly about talking about where I am at in the journey and what I am doing to protect my work with the AI of it all looming.

At this point I have purposefully slowed down this year (and maybe into next given my kids extracurricular schedules) so that I can focus on curating my portfolio and also curate things so my style shines through more.

I have learned that anything that doesn’t go into the trello doesn’t get done or gets forgotten, so I am working out a “project plan” of what needs to be done with my website before I start working on new art. I also need to make sure everything that does get posted is glazed, nightshaded, and has a watermark going forward which is quite the undertaking that we all have to do to protect our art these days.

I have also been working on some podcasts for friends. Making art, logos and other assets. Generally this is on an as needed basis but, Expecto Podtronum is one podcast that I am actually a host on and we are well into season 3 preparations at the moment.

This means, looking at episode, docs, planning episode art, among other things like recording schedules. If you want to listen to me or my other hosts discuss Patronus animals and how they connect to the Harry Potter books then you should totally have a listen wherever you find your podcasts.

Hopefully, as time goes on I will be more and more able to dedicate time to new art and in a perfect world as time goes on I will be working on more children’s books. Those are my first love and really would be my favorite projects.

As always I am trying to be more regular with my posting but random monthly drops is probably the best I will be able to do for a good long while. Hopefully you enjoy reading my stream of consciousness and I will see you all soon with an update on what is going on soon.

Till next time. Keep failing creatively ❤️
