Tips and Tricks Video

Hello, creatives, fellow designers, and anyone reading this; today’s post is about a project I worked on related to teaching art. So in November of 2020 someone from the Iconfactory reached out to me about making a favorite Tips and Tricks video about their drawing app Linea Sketch.

(PSA: download and use this app it is truly my favorite and I would tell that to anyone who would listen even before Linea Sketch asked me to make a video)

When they asked me to make a video I was extremely nervous, I hate being on camera and have no video creating experience. Well despite my fears and concerns I agreed to do it but was slowed down in the actual creation of the video by life, children, COVID, e-learning. Luckily the wonderful people at Iconfactory were very understanding about all that and I revisited the project when I was able.

The Project

Now to the project itself, they asked me to make a tips and tricks video for using the app and I must admit when I sat down to plan the video I felt a little lost. When I am drawing or illustrating it is something that is so second nature to me at this point that it is like breathing for me. It is not something I break down into steps very often.

Gigi The Giraffe

In the end, I built the video by just recording myself drawing Gigi the Giraffe, a character that I designed for my kids. Then reviewing the videos for different things I do while using the app that might be helpful tips for other artists. Things like how do I set my color palette or what do I do if I decide an element of my art needs to be moved. (For the rest of the tips check out the video)

I am really glad they reached out to me to make this video and I truly hope that I get a chance to do more of this kind of thing. They unintentionally pushed me out of my comfort zone and I even figured out how to not be in the video since that is a thing that I am not comfortable with. It has also started an ongoing project that I have been making for MuggleNet’s Instagram and TikTok with how to draw videos that are related to elements of the Harry Potter world.

Also, I need to say how much I appreciate the team at Iconfactory for putting their faith in an unknown artist to create a video for them, and I hope that my video helps other aspiring digital artists to put their work out there and create.

As always thank you for taking the time to read 💙. Know that I appreciate you and wish you all the luck in the world on your creative endeavors.

Till next time, Happy Designing ❤️!

Update: Since making this video, there have been a bunch of new features added to this app and I will probably make some more videos related to it at some point for those who are interested in learning more about how to use the app.
